UFC Vegas 109 headliner Roman Dolidze was once credited for ‘inventing’ a move that had devastating consequences for his opponent.
Before another pay-per-view fight week gets underway ahead of Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev’s title clash in the UFC 319 main event, the promotion has remained at the Apex for the second weekend running.
After Tatsuro Taira’s submission against Hyun Sung Park in the August 3 headliner, two middleweights will look to follow in his footsteps with a similarly dominant display Saturday in ‘Sin City’. Topping the UFC Vegas 109 lineup will be in-form contenders Anthony Hernandez and Roman Dolidze.
Both men ride impressive streaks into their clash and have a number of memorable results on their UFC résumé. But Dolidze has done one thing Hernandez has not inside the Octagon — in fact, he’s done one thing that seemingly nobody else has.

Roman Dolidze used nasty calf slicer position to TKO Jack Hermansson
Dolidze most recently beat Marvin Vettori in a March 2025 main event at the Apex. The result marked the Georgian’s third straight win, two of which have come via decision. The only finish on that run was a corner stoppage after Kevin Holland injured himself at UFC 307.
The last time ‘The Caucasian’ finished things during a round was in 2022, when Dolidze tore through Jack Hermansson at UFC Orlando in devastating fashion.
Things started off somewhat rough for the Georgian, who had his front leg carved up by ‘The Joker’ in round one. But he turned things around in round two en route to a TKO stoppage with just under a minute of the frame remaining.
Referee Marc Goddard intervened as Dolidze rained down ground-and-pound strikes on a flattened-out Hermansson, but the star of the finish was not the onslaught of punches; it was the technique used to ensure that was possible.
Dolidze transitioned from an inverted triangle choke off his back into a nasty calf slicer to immobilize ‘The Joker’, leaving the Swedish-Norwegian veteran no room to escape as the battering on the ground commenced.
The win was the biggest of Dolidze’s career at the time, given that Hermansson was ranked No. 8 and the Georgian was not inside the top 15.

Both at the time and in the years since, fans have reflected fondly on Dolidze’s incredible finish in Orlando.

“Just in case you forgot how good Roman Dolidze is… Calf slicer to ground and pound (against) Jack Hermansson.”
“Dolidze pounds Hermansson from a calf slicer…this same finish won’t likely be ever repeated.”
